TESTIMONIAL:
"I am one the fortunate ones to get a lighted silk painting done by Courtni Hale during her New Mexico period. This young artist has captured a style that reminiscent of older recognized artists with modern themes and 21st century technologies. Her works are self contained stain glass windows that can be located any where a bright colored accent in needed, and who hasn't always wanted to have at least one stained glass window in their home. I am especially pleased that I got a work that was inspired by the unique colors of the Southwestern sun and landscape even though she does other themes equally well. Courtni has hit on medium and style that will eventually distinguish her among the artists of today."

Hello...
This is Courtni Hale, and I want to say hello to you as a potential buyer of my art, and tell you about my journey.
Many years ago I was a young mother and environmental activist in New York, when I began to have a series of strange dreams and visions. I have documented these experiences as well as scientific interviews and research in my novel, "Urban Shamin I: Learning" which you can finda link to below. When these dream sequences led me to a Native American shaman in New Mexico, I had to decide whether or not I would follow my dreams (literally)...And I did.
I lost everything except for my children and a truckful of clothes and toys but I left for the Southwest, and endured trials and hardship in order to heal myself and my family through traditional Native American shamanic practice. This included training in how to build and run a sweat lodge, traditional ceremony, dream interpretation, drumming, soul retrieval, careful study of herbal medicine, entheogens such as san pedro, ayahuasca, dmt, peyote and datura. None of this was for play, or for a game, nor was any of this taken lightly by my instructor who was really unamused by the appearance of a mostly white woman from New York who insisted she would do whatever was neccessary to study native medicine, and to heal herself. Ultimately, in the dreams I was having, I was supposed to build an EcoVillage, a place where we could retreat from the toxic society that I saw as a likely result of our pollution and off the rails capitalism.
The paintings in the first series, entitled Urban Shamin, are from the novel, and if you read it you will find one painting in each chapter. The second series I began when I started my shamanic apprenticeship with my elder, and they are painted on Silk, representing the dual nature of our humanity. We are both Hu (light) and Man (organic body). Silk embodies this quality because it allows light to pass through it at the same time as holding the color of the form. I wish for you the experience of Harmony and Beauty that comes from these paintings, and that your Heart can open to the vast and infinite possibilities of Life.
